Here is a great example of the 1926 Sesquicentennial of American Independence Commemorative Half Dollar which has been graded MS64+ by PCGS. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. The PCGS label also indicates this coin was from the “Guttag Family” collection. The obverse depicts the first President of the United States, George Washington, alongside the then current President of the United States, Calvin Coolidge. The reverse shows a very nice rendition of the Liberty Bell. The coin has some light handling marks and minor hits on the high points, but nothing too significant. The coin is mostly bright white and very lustrous, though the luster is slightly muted by a light haze which covers most of the surfaces of both sides of the coin, but that light haze is also a testament to the originality of this piece. Examples of this issue typically are found somewhat flat or dull, but that is not the case with this coin and the luster of the piece is likely the reason the coin was given the plus grade by PCGS. Given the large jump in price to the next grade, this near gem example of the Sesquicentennial Commemorative Half is a relative bargain. |
