Here is an 1893-O Barber Quarter which has been graded MS62 by PCGS. The coin is bright and lustrous on both sides and is untoned. The coin also has an excellent strike, particularly for a New Orleans quarter. There are several light marks and light scratches scattered about both sides of the coin, but none are major or overly distracting. In looking at the coin closer, the coin also exhibits a strongly repunched O/O mintmark. A couple of close up photos of the mintmark have been provided. Please note that this RPM variety is not listed an any of the references I have researched, and accordingly, is not designated on the label by the grading service. That said, I have shown the coin to a few Barber Quarter experts and each of them agreed the coin has a significant RPM. In looking at many other quarters of this date, I have not yet found another with this variety present. A nice overall mint state New Orleans Barber Quarter with a significant and potentially rare repunched mintmark variety. |
