The Booker T. Washington Memorial Half Dollar was the first United States coin to bear the likeness of an African-American and was also the first United States coin to be designed by an African-American, Isaac Scott Hathaway. This 1946 Booker T. Washington Commemorative Half Dollar has been graded MS66 by PCGS. The coin is moderately toned on both sides. Light toning covers the entire obverse, with a thicker band of vibrant color around the rims and outlining the portrait. The reverse has deeper, colorful toning on much of the lower part of the design which fades to a bright white untoned area near the top of the design. The deeper color is mostly a golden-orange, but there are hints of vibrant pink and red also. An interesting looking Booker T. Washington half dollar. |
