1936 Long Island Half PCGS MS66 |

This 1936 Long Island Tercentenary Commemorative Half Dollar has been graded MS66 by PCGS and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. The coin has spectacular overall eye appeal. The coin has bright mint luster that cartwheels around the surfaces and superb rainbow toning on both sides. The colorful toning of the coin is primarily concentrated around the rims of the coin. As with many commemoratives of the era, the Long Island Tercentenary half dollar was originally issued in a cardboard holder with a circular target-shaped cutout connected by small tabs to hold the coin in place. That holder design most certainly contributed to the toning pattern found on this coin. The toning is somewhat dark, but not quite as dark in hand as shown in the photos. There are a few light hits on the high points of the design on each side, but such hits are very minor and well masked by the toning of the coin. An amazingly attractive, high-grade example of the Long Island Commemorative Half Dollar. |
