The Texas Independence Centennial half dollars have one of the most crowded designs of any commemorative half dollar. Because of the crowded design, hardly any open fields remain making the grading of these coins very difficult. That said, this is an amazing specimen and a superb overall example of the type. This 1935-D Texas Commemorative Half Dollar has been graded MS67+ by PCGS and is encapsulated in the newer-style edge-view holder. A TrueView photo was taken by PCGS which captures the beauty of this coin in the best light. There are only five (5) example of the 1935-D Texas Half which have ever been graded higher at MS68 by PCGS and those coins would cost approximately $10,000 each. This MS67+ example has stunningly strong mint luster that cartwheels around both sides of the coin. The fields on the eagle side of the coin also have a slightly proof-like flash to them when tilted into the light. The coin was likely stored in a paper envelope for many years as there is a narrow band of deep toning around both sides along the rim and also at a few high points on the design. The color of the toning is a dark reddish-brown at most points, but there are areas of more vibrant red and gold which can be seen upon close inspection. The remainder of the coin is bright white and very flashy with virtually no marks or other issues present. A very special Texas Commemorative Half Dollar! |
