Here is an example of the 1936-S/S Buffalo Nickel repunched mintmark variety which is designated as FS-501 in the Cherrypickers' Guide. The coin shows a very strong repunching of the S mintmark as there is clearly a secondary S mintmark just underneath and to the south of the primary mintmark. This 1936-S/S Buffalo Nickel RPM FS-501 has been graded MS64 by PCGS and is encapsulated in the newer-style edge-view holder. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. The coin is a bright original and lustrous nickel color with no noticeable toning. There are some light marks on the high points of the design which seemingly keep the coin from the gem grade, but the coin is nevertheless a very strong example for the grade. To date, PCGS has attributed only ten (10) examples of this variety in higher grades; nine (9) coins grading MS65 and a single MS66. Here is your opportunity to obtain a really nice example of this Buffalo Nickel variety with a very strongly repunched mintmark. |
