1893 Columbian Expo New York Naval Parade E-211 NGC MS65 SOLD
1893 Columbian Expo New York Naval Parade E-211 NGC MS65
The 1893 World Columbian Exposition held in Chicago to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the voyage of Christopher Columbus to the New World was one of the largest and most popular World’s Fairs in history. Many numismatic items were struck in connection with the Columbian Exposition from the first commemorative coins of the United States to nearly a hundred different so-called dollars. This piece from the Columbian Exposition is the New York Naval Parade Medal which has been graded MS65 by NGC and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The piece is cataloged as Eglit-211 as indicated on the certification label. The piece is holed near the top as issued. The obverse features a detailed ship at sail and the reverse has an image of the U.S. Battleship New York. The obverse fields show a strong prooflike mirror while the reverse fields are slightly muted, but still reflective. An attractive Columbian Expo naval medal.
