1936 Bridgeport Half PCGS MS66 |

This is a very eye appealing example of the 1936 Bridgeport Centennial Commemorative Half Dollar which has been graded MS66 by PCGS and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. The Bridgeport half dollar is one of the lower mintage coins in the classic commemorative series with mintage of only 25,015 coins. Only a fraction of that total mintage survives today in MS66 condition and only a fraction of those coins have great eye appeal. The obverse of this coin featuring America's greatest showman P.T. Barnum has gorgeous golden toning which is slightly streaky towards the upper half of the coin. The reverse of the coin also has beautiful golden toning which intensifies slightly at the rims. The luster of the coin is very strong and in conjunction with the toning it makes for a very attractive coin. Only a couple of tiny hits on P.T. Barnum’s cheek seemingly limit the grade of this piece. The art deco style eagle is one of my favorite eagle designs on any U.S. coin, although some collectors seem to loathe the design. It is not easy to find a Bridgeport half dollar with great eye appeal and this is one of the better ones out there in my opinion. |
