Many tokens and medals were issued in connection with the 1939 Golden Gate Exposition held on Treasure Island in San Francisco. The piece here featured detailed depictions of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The brass medal, which also appears to be gilt, is not listed as HK-484 in the Hibler-Kappen reference on So-Called Dollars. This 1939 Golden Gate & Bay Bridge Medal has been graded MS65 by NGC and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. The medal has a bright golden color on both sides and wonderful overall detail. Just a few minor marks can be found with a close inspection, but none are significant. A beautiful and detailed medal from the 1939 Golden Gate Exposition. |
