1950 California Statehood Centennial HK-504 Gold-Plated Bronze NGC MS64 SOLD
1950 California Statehood Centennial HK-504 Gold-Plated Bronze NGC MS64
To celebrate the centennial of California Statehood, the California Society of Medalists and the California Chamber of Commerce created a very popular octagonal commemorative medal, reminiscent of the gold slugs from nearly a century prior. The gold-plated bronze version of the 1950 California Statehood Centennial Official Medal is listed as HK-504 in the Hibler-Kappen reference on So-Called Dollars. This example of the 1950 HK-504 medal has been graded MS64 by NGC and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. The obverse features a palm tree and a redwood tree and the reverse has a design similar to the 1851 Augusts Humbert $50 gold slug. The piece is an awesome example that is bright and flashy. Both sides are very bright golden color and the surfaces are like-new and proof-like in appearance. The medal has a look that is much better than that of the assigned grade, though it is important to note that this is oneo of only two (2) example of this medal to have earned the MS64 grade by NGC with no examples grading higher. You are not likely to find a more impressive example of this issue. An amazing top pop example of this popular octagonal so-called dollar with extraordinary eye appeal.
