1925 Norse Medal Thin PCGS MS64 |

Although it is technically not part of the classic commemorative series, many collectors of classic commemoratives collect the 1925 Norse American Centennial Medal and include it with their collections. At the time the Norse Medal was contemplated, there was an attempt to seek production of an actual coin (most likely a half dollar) for their centennial celebration. However, getting Congress to approve the issuance of the piece as a medal and not a coin proved to be much easier. The medals are also hugely popular amongst collectors because of their eye-catching octagonal design. This example of the 1925 Norse Medal has been graded MS64 by PCGS and has been struck on a thin silver planchet. The think planchet Norse Medals are somewhat more scarce than the thick planchet variety, particularly in higher grades. This is a moderately toned example with nice overall eye appeal. The piece is fully toned with a medium to dark blue green color with golden highlights, particularly towards the center of each side. A terrific example of the thin variety Norse Medal. |
