The Oregon Trail Memorial Commemorative Half Dollar is one of the most popular designs in the classic commemorative series given its amazing designs of the Native American and the Pioneer Wagon. This example of the 1938-D Oregon Half Dollar has been graded MS66 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The 1938-D Oregon Trail half dollar is a much better date in the series and has a ultra-low mintage of only 6,005 pieces. Of course, a much smaller number than that survive in MS66 condition and with so much eye appeal as the coin offered here. The coin has a very strong strike and I can find no hits or marks worthy of mention. The coin also has nearly perfect rim toning that is especially eye appealing with virtually all of the colors of the rainbow present. The luster of the coin is just slightly muted by the toning giving the coin a satiny look and may have been a contributing factor in limiting the grade of the coin to MS66 as I can find no other reason the piece did not grade higher. If you think you like the look of this amazing 1938-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar from the pictures, you will love it much more so in hand. |
