1936 Robinson Arkansas Half PCGS MS66 SOLD
1936 Robinson Arkansas Half PCGS MS66
In 1936, Arkansas attempted to obtain three (3) additional reverse designs for the already issued Arkansas Centennial half dollars. Only one new design was authorized by Congress, which later became the Arkansas-Robinson commemorative half dollar that is now collected as a separate type from the standard Arkansas Centennial half dollar. The Arkansas-Robinson half dollars are also one of the few United States coins to bear the portrait of a then-living person. Joseph T. Robinson was the United States Senate Majority Leader in 1936 and voted for the legislation to allow for the design change in the Arkansas Centennial half dollar. That vote ultimately resulted in his very own portrait being placed on the coin against his wishes. This is a 1936 Arkansas-Robinson Half Dollar which has been graded MS66 by PCGS and has been encapsulated in the newer-style edge-view holder. The coin is attractively toned, likely as a result from being stored in an original tab-holder booklet for many years. The coin is also quite lustrous, further adding to the overall eye appeal. Only a few light marks can be found on the high points under a close inspection. A very nice high-grade Arkansas-Robinson Commemorative Half Dollar.
