This 1947-S Jefferson Nickel has been graded MS66FS by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The FS designation has been given as the coin exhibits fully struck steps of Monticello on the reverse which is evident of a strongly struck example. That said, the very bottom step on the reverse is partially merged with the base of the building which may be of concern to any ultra-selective collectors. The coin has very strong cartwheel luster and is untoned. Just a few hits on the obverse likely have prevented a higher grade as the piece otherwise appears deserving. Of course, only two (2) examples of this date have graded higher at PCGS and each of those is valued at well over $10,000. A wonderful high-grade example of the date. |
