The 1780 Maria Theresa Silver Thaler is an official modern restrike issued by the Austrian Mint and is referred to by some as the World’s Most Famous Silver Coin. Both mint state and proof specimens are struck each year, but all newly struck coins retain the 1780 date. This mint state example of the 1780 Maria Theresa Silver Thaler restrike has been graded MS65 by PCGS. Although the gem MS65 grade is a fairly average grade for this restrike, this example is not your average looking Maria Theresa Thaler. The eye appeal of the coin is very strong with areas of rainbow toning on both sides, primarily on the left side of the obverse and the right side of the reverse. Strong cartwheel luster is also present on both sides. Some light marks on the coin, particularly on the obverse, limit the technical grade of the coin, but really do not impact the overall eye appeal too much. A neat and colorfully toned example of this popular silver restrike. |
