Here is an 1858 Seated Liberty Half Dollar which has been graded MS65 by PCGS and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. The coin is fully toned on both sides and has excellent mint luster. The obverse is a mostly blue and grey color that concentrates in a more blue and light green color near the rim, particularly at the top of the coin. The reverse shows much more vibrant color with more blue and purple color at the center of the design and lighter blue and green at the rims. Much more colorful and attractive than my photos show. There are some light marks in the fields of this coin on both sides that limit the grade to MS65, but the luster and color of the coin is what draws your eye when viewing the piece in hand. To date, only five (5) examples of this date have graded higher at PCGS, all grading MS66. An eye appealing gem example of the No Motto Seated Liberty Half Dollar. |
