1908-S US-Philippines Peso NGC MS62 |

This coin was minted at the San Francisco Mint for use in the Philippines which were a territory of the United States at the time. Because they were minted for use in a U.S. Territory, minted at the U.S. Mint in the United States and the coins say “United States of America” on them, many U.S. collectors are now starting to collect the U.S. Philippines coinage along with their U.S. coin collections. Even the Red Book of U.S. Coins has expanded their listings of USPI coinage, see pages 415-419 of the 2015 edition. This 1908-S U.S.-Philippines One Peso has been graded MS62 by NGC. This peso has strong and bright cartwheel luster on both sides. The coin is mostly bright white with just a small bit of golden toning on part of the reverse near the rim. The coin is not nearly as dark as the photos came out. There are plenty of small hits and marks scattered about both sides of the coin as you would expect on a coin grading MS62. That said, the coin is a nice well-struck example for the grade and a wonderful example of the type. |
