1937 Arkansas Half PCGS MS63 OGH DOILY |

Here is a 1937 Arkansas Commemorative Half Dollar which has been graded MS63 by PCGS and is housed in one of the very rare Doily label PCGS holders. This version of the PCGS holder was only used for a couple of weeks during late-1989 before it was quickly phased out. Accordingly, it has been reported that only a few hundred coins in this style of holder are known to exist today and they are highly sought after by collectors. When you are lucky enough to find a PCGS Doily style holder, it most often contains a Morgan Silver Dollar or a Mercury Dime. Other type coins are much much more difficult to find in these holders and finding certain types of the classic commemorative half dollars in a Doily holder can be extremely difficult. In the census of known examples of Doily label PCGS holders only two (2) other examples of the Arkansas half dollar have been reported to exist in a Doily label holder and neither of those coins are a 1937 dated example. The coin itself is bright and lustrous, but the spotting on the reverse is not very attractive. There are some light marks on the obverse, but they are relatively minor given the grade of the coin. The two-piece Doily holder is in fair condition with some cracks in the lower right side of the fragile outer stacking ring. It is always neat to find a classic commemorative in the old PCGS Doily label holder and this Arkansas Half is no exception if you can get past the reverse spotting. |
