1909-S US-Philippines Peso ANACS AU58 SOLD
This coin was minted at the San Francisco Mint for use in the Philippines which were a territory of the United States at the time. Because they were minted for use in a U.S. Territory, minted at the U.S. Mint in the United States and the coins say “United States of America” on them, many U.S. collectors are now starting to collect the U.S. Philippines coinage along with their U.S. coin collections. Even the Red Book of U.S. Coins has expanded their listings of USPI coinage, see pages 411-415 of the 2014 edition (407-411 of the 2013 edition). This coin is a 1909-S U.S.-Philippines One Peso which has been graded AU58 by ANACS and is encapsulated in the older small white ANACS holder from many years ago. This is one of the most eye appealing 1909-S USPI Pesos that I have owned. The reverse side with the eagle and the shield is beautifully toned and very lustrous. The color is a deep greyish-purple that is a little deeper and colorful than my close up photographs came out. The obverse with Lady Liberty standing tall is mostly bright white and also full of original luster. The coin is well struck and it is difficult to find any actual wear. There are a few hits on the coin and several small marks scattered about the fields, but nothing distracting. Easily the best AU58 example I've ever seen and more eye appealing that most mint state examples I have encountered.
