This 2014 Glendale Coin Club Medal was minted by Daniel Carr in celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Glendale (CA) Coin Club. The obverse design features the grizzly bear design from the 1925 California Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Half Dollar in actual size, with the name of the coin club surrounding. The reverse design features a 55/55 in the style of the 1955 Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln Cent, surrounded by the club name and the dual 1959-2014 date. Examples were struck in copper, silver and gold. Only 9 gold medals were minted, most of which will be retained by club members, making the piece quite rare. The medal is 39mm in diameter and weighs 50 grams (just over 1.6 troy ounces) of .999+ pure gold. The medal is marked on the edge "50 GRAMS 999+ GOLD." The medal comes in a high quality plastic capsule to protect the near perfect condition of the piece. A beautifully done medal and an opportunity to own a large gold coin with a mintage in the single digits. |
